Overview
The Newark Digital Academy (NDA) opened in the fall of 2003 as a Conversion Community School (often called 'Charter Schools' in other states) as part of the state’s system of public education. NDA offers an education that is regarded as equivalent to that of Ohio’s traditional public and private schools approved by the state department of education. Community schools are public nonprofit, nonsectarian schools that operate independently of any school district but under a contract with an authorized sponsoring entity (Newark City Schools) that is established by statute or approved by the Ohio Department of Education.  Community Schools are public schools of choice and are state and federally funded.
Newark Digital Academy is designed for students who have a desire for an education that can be completed through an alternative method of curriculum delivery in an independent environment. Because the focus is on distance learning, the ability of students to learn independently in their own homes is essential.
We believe this conversion school provides a unique opportunity to serve certain students who would benefit from an alternative educational experience.

Ages and Grades of Students
Newark Digital Academy is a general population school serving students aged 5-22 in grades K-12 who are entitled to attend school. Students must reside within the State of Ohio.

Mission
The mission of the Newark Digital Academy is to enhance and facilitate learning by combining state-of-the-art digital or other curriculum delivery methods with access to local school resources that complement instruction and prepare student to become lifelong learners and productive citizens.
